Knock-sensing lock

http://grathio.com/2009/11/secret-knock-detecting-door-lock.html A homemade and really cool design- it's a lock that appears to be a normal deadbolt, but is really computer-controlled to unlock when it senses a pre-programmed secret knock.

This is particularly true for carbs, as we don't have a good system for storing carbs over and above approximately one day's use (which is stored as glycogen). Converting sugars to fat is cumbersome and most of the energy is lost in the process. (...

I don't remember much else about the story other than that ...

Rest in Peace, Jesse

... band every year until this year, and English every other year.  I remember the first time I learned that Jesse had overcome leukemia when he was younger.  We were sitting across each other in sixth grade science, coloring, cutting, and pasting for some project.  He told me that he had defeated leukemia and then we talked about his "Make a Wish" wish.  From that point until later in 8th grade, it ...

Outlining

...got the plot and the reason and it's gone from what began an a fairly normal fantasy setting, the sort of medieval-type scenario with creatures of magic and the church hating them for it, to a science fiction story. I've kept the guy but I've got rid of the one girl and replaced with another. The 'backgroud' is very similar but the reasons for everything have changed. Interesting exercise and it ...
