SSRIs and weight gain

I gained a boatload of weight being on Paxil and Risperdal. My psychiatrist doesn't listen to me and when I told my therapist about it he said that no pills cause anyone to gain weight. Ever. So I quit taking the prescriptions. Now I'm a mental mess, but the weight is starting to come off. Is there ANYTHING that doesn't make you a vapid fat-ass that still helps?
