An autumn Sunday

...'s saying I need to stop by the Methodist church's pumpkin patch and pick out something large and beautiful to put on my front stoop. It's insisting I listen to my fall classical music playlist. All played by the marvelous Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by the superb Eugene Ormandy. Danse Macabre Opus 40 - Camille Saint-Saëns Sorcerer's Apprentice - Paul Dukas España Rhapsody - Emmanuel ...

The dangers of not communicating

... doesn't communicate with his fans. Since his debut, I've been an ardent follower of Peter Cincotti's music. He burst onto the scene in 2003 as a 19 year-old jazz phenom, his debut released on the ... your career since its early days. Who talked you up, who got their parents and friends listening to the music and going to the gigs. Maybe you don't know what you should say, so you say nothing at ...

Rediscovering the passion in unexpected ways

... the good wishes), I retreated into the world of movies-- it was either that or the debate. Movie I wound up with, Across the Universe , was no doubt every bit as surreal and with better music to boot. Loved it. Loved. It. Since I have the two-disc edition, I started watching the behind-the-scenes features this morning. I've always loved Julie Taymor, but watching her in action as director, ...

Mary Chapin Carpenter sings for me

... to go along with it never did coalesce, but I've always had that title in mind. Mostly because of how true it is for me. She's my cure whenever I'm in a funk-- listening to her music and lyrics always does it for me. Proof that we introspective storyteller types can succeed on our terms. Lyrics of the day by the inimitable Chapin: Late For Your Life You've been saying for the longest time ...

*whimper*

Botti trumpets star-studded cast Flown in from Italy while vacationing after The Police’s tour, Sting emerged to a standing ovation (just one of many). And though his silk, spandex-and-suspenders ensemble looked a little silly, his performance definitely wasnt. From his “Ten Summoners Tales” disc, “Seven Days” forced the band to kick it up a few notches, and Sting’s sandpapery pipes sounded ...

Meme time: tagged by amy37

...if I don't like a book, see ya. 5) Twin post with amy37 : I love, love, love to drive. I don't need the cigarettes part of the equation (substitute chocolate instead) but definitely need the music and something to drink and I can go for hours. I also love the fact that my car is a manual transmission with some oomph. A lot of my favorite vacation dreams involve road driving: Route 66, U.S...

When everything else is in doubt...

Music and cooking will always be constants. Clearly, yesterday was all about the music. Today, it's all about the cooking. Cooking is my therapy. It's one place I'm utterly fearless. And we're heading into the time of year where I love to cook best-- I live for soups, stews, warm desserts made with fall fruits, muffins and quick breads, anything comforting basically. Last night it was "Hmm... ...

Many thanks and boy, I'ma geek

... to keep it alive. With respect to the geekery, it involves having downloaded the Torchwood soundtrack from iTunes. Really, not so much with the geek-factor because it's really very, very good-- great combo of techno-sounding charts and classic orchestral score music. And it makes me remember all sorts of scenes from the series, some of which make me very weepy. (Owen! Tosh! Waaaaahhhhhhhhh!)

I love this quote.

It is so utterly dead on, not just about television, but it could apply to publishing, music, pretty much any creative field. John Slattery from Mad Men . Q: You've run the gamut in television, working on pay-cable, on network television and now basic cable. Is there a difference, as an actor? A: There's definitely a difference. The fewer people who are allowed to make creative decisions, ...
