Joker-esque humor?

I decided to try to write a joke something along the lines of the DC Joker's sense of humor. Nothing racially or sexually offensive, but not a nice joke. A man wakes up in the morning, next to his dead wife's corpse. He checks on his kids in their beds; both dead, dried out now, smelling faintly of old bread, then goes outside to get the paper. He steps over the half-eaten skeleton of his dog...

Terry Pratchett is a GOD of funny writing. I just finished reading "Small Gods", and it was at the same time hilarious and gave me hope for people in general. If you're a fan of Discworld, that one's a must-read, and even if you've never heard of Discworld before, it is quite possibly the epitome of odd British humor. At some points Pratchett may actually be funnier than Douglas Adams.
