Story of my shade garden in pictures.

... me a compost bin. At about the same time, my neighbor from across the street gave me a bunch of hostas. Hostas like shade so I put them back there. I also cleaned up the compost/weed/bramble pile and and .... After a week it looks like some of the African Impatiens are not flourishing. The coleus seem happy and the hostas-- whoa nelly! x-posted to gardening.

... as dumb.) The rose bush is supposed to be shading the stained glass and cathedral hostas by the front. As you can see, it's not doing such a good job of it. The hostas will grow but I believe I won't get the great coloring that I would if they were in the shade. These hostas are under the shade of the mulberry trees. Surprise day, surprise day! Gardener surprise day. Anything can happen and it usually does!

... compost pile freed up a bunch of bricks. I could use these bricks to make a border around the mulberry trees in the back and have myself a little shade bed. I've already put the gifted hostas around there. This would be a perfect place for the African Twat plant I so desperately want. And other tropical annuals. Now the questions become-- should I partially bury the bricks? Should I paint them? ...
