Writing Sample Question

... I moved from NYC to Dallas. And I have a question about a writing internship I'm trying to get. If a writing job doesn't explicitly ask for a writing sample, and you don't have many writing jobs on your resume, is it alright to attach one anyway? Or will they look at that and ...? It is with a very large food bank who needs someone to help with publicity if that matters.
