Jump rings trouble

...apart after just a couple of wears! Is there anything I can do to make my jump rings stronger or more secure? Most of my jump rings are 22 gauge; would it help to use a larger gauge? Stick to silver-plated base metal instead of pure sterling? Thanks for your help if you have any ideas!
