Ntfs..Fat32 .. wtf!

...new external drive working.. turns out the best way is to format it to Ext4 with an extended...which allows me to access the drive permissions and set them to network... to the linux default format, not the 'universal' or 'msdos' ones.... windows couldn't see the drive at all when it was ... home server with a media drive everyone here can access.
