As some of you may no, I've been a big fan of florescent bulbs for some time. Thus, I was somewhat disturbed to read that compact florescent bulbs apparently contain mercury . I don't know that such bulbs are the only kind of florescent lights that you can get, but they've certainly been in the news a fair bit lately as a big step that can be taken to reduce electricity consumption. While compact-fluorescent lightbulbs use 1/4 the energy of equivelant incandescent bulbs, it is important to remember that they do contain mercury. Because of the energy savings, I still advocate their use (unlike the writer of the article below).
