... to another properly booting computer and get all of my files off of it. Fingers crossed that I can somehow get through this without having to reinstall Windows from scratch once again, but I'm not confident. I just wish I could understand what causes my computers to do this. Dell has even gone as far as to replace the motherboard in one of them. There's no logic to when the failure happens!
... a completely unrelated note, MS Word does not recognize the British spelling variant of that element, and does not even provide 'sulfur' as a correction option -- it thought I was trying to spell 'scripture.' Computers baffle me, they really do.) 7. Yep, sulphur in the gas. Obvious plot twist was obvious. (But nicely executed.) 8. Aha, an airship! Or at least the precursor thereof. This ...
This quarter has been busy. Very busy. I'm taking 17 credithours. It's intense. And I've been busy outside of class. Anyway, I got back to my room a couple hours ago after heading to town. I went to 1) drop of a disc of pictures, 2) get some new jeans! and 3) setup a computer for my dad. The first is a series of pictures I took for a sculptor on the dedication of her statue, which looks ...
First iPhone worm discovered Apple iPhone owners in Australia have reported that their smartphones have been infected by a worm that has changed their wallpaper to an image of 1980s pop crooner Rick Astley. Once in place, the worm appears to attempt to find other iPhones on the mobile phone network that are similarly vulnerable, and installs itself again On each installation, the worm -...
I know I'm trying to do too many things at once when I pour myself a cup of coffee, put it down, and ten minutes later wander past the kitchen and do the same thing again -- only to find the earlier, undrunk cup sitting looking reproachfully at me. This afternoon's mission is chaos reduction and de-grungification, with particular focus on the bathroom. Now that the tub is no longer filling with ...
Thinking the battery on this laptop needs replacing. After it says it's chargedfully, you take it off, it falls to around 85% in about five minutes, then suddenly plunges to around 8%. This, as they say, will not do. But it can wait for now. At least I have places to plug it in. In other news, my back will not stop hurting for some reason. It's been like this on and off for a while now.
This will still be short since I only have 10 minutes to write it. But it deserves a bit more than I've been willing to write. Dragon Age is a great spiritual successor to the original Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 in a way that Neverwinter Nights never really managed. I'm playing it on the PC -- my understanding is that the Xbox and PS3 versions are a bit less tactical and a bit more action...
Is there any application or something that will allow one person to stream their iTunes over the internet like a radio station? That's probably not clear, so here is what I want to do: my friend in New York wants to play me music throughout the day and would like to just set it up so I may hear what he's playing. He's found a couple programs, but either I'm too stupid to figure out how to use ...
Somewhere on one of our old filk tapes is a song that begins "I'm a computer necromancer. I can raise your system from the dead." So am I. I have done it quite a few times, most recently tonight. The corpse was a Compaq Presario laptop that we bought for our older son J a few years ago. In fact this was the third time I had revived it. The previous two times he had managed to strangle it ...
