So the lovely commodorified is convening an evening of bitchin' stitchin' at the Arrow & Loon this Wednesday. 8PM. Anyone else want to bring some yarn (or sewing or other craftiness)? It will be epic!! And there will be beer!

Peter Watts, a Canadian science fiction author, was beaten, thrown out into the cold without transportation or coat, and charged with felony assault . What he did was to get out of his car and ask (twice!) why his car was being searched-- he was on his way back into Canada, and he was dealing with American border guards. It's only now making it into the mainstream media , but Canadian author Peter Watts reports that he was "punched in the face, pepper-sprayed, shit-kicked, handcuffed, thrown wet and half-naked into a holding cell for three ****ing hours, thrown into an even colder jail cell overnight, arraigned, and charged with assaulting a federal officer, all without access to legal representation ... ...

I thought the US was supposed to be done with this shit. Let alone to friendly neighbouring countries! And here I was very vaguely considering taking it off my personal no-fly list. Via commodorified : Author Peter Watts attempts to cross border US/Canada border without incident, gets punched, kicked, thrown in jail cell overnight and has possessions confiscated.
