... did what he was told to. Not that he's blameless, if this is as ghastly as it sounds, but there's no way he did that on his own. (It's like when the guys writing SLIDERS kept writing ghastly Step'n'Fetchit stuff for Cleavant Derricks, and then blamed Derricks for acting poorly when they started to catch heat. This was when their critics pointed out that Derricks was a Tony-award-winning actor.)

Just a quick update from Sacramento...

... was so long and had so much exposition that I really couldn't fully get into it. Maybe it just wasn't my type of show- which was no fault of that particular production.
