html help

Can somebody tell me what the tag is that will allow a post that's talking about HTML tags to display the tag within angle brackets (rather than treating it as an actual tag and applying it)? I looked it up and I've tried [pre] and [code] and neither one seems to work. I could just put the tags in square brackets like I did here, but I know there's a solution because I've seen people use it. ETA:...
