Joseph Had a Little Overcoat Simms Taback Viking 1999 2000 Caldecottwinner. A cute tale of a frugal man and what was once an overcoat. The best parts of this book are the little artistic details found on each page. Simms Taback embellishes his pages with Jewish/Polish life and culture. Very Enjoyable. 4 ½ stars.

Tuesday David Wiesner Clarion Books 1991 1992 Caldecot winner. This is a delightful look at the hard to believe, fantastical happenings one Tuesday night. The art is beautiful and humorous at the same time. David Wiesner once again proves that he is a children’s author/illustrator who can blow away his audience. 5 stars. Recommended for all readers.

The illustrations in this cumulative tale are truly amazing. The elaborate details of the town when the bird is in flight with the girl are breathtakingly beautiful. This simple story is great to use with younger children to take them to an imaginary place of light. Would make a great bedtime story!
