Shelf life of sneakers

Sports Authority is currently having a clearance sale, $40 off, the shoes I use to run in. Since I'll be probably needing to retire my current shoes sometime at the end of next month, I bought a pair. I'm curious if I should buy a second pair for "the future". I run about 50-60 miles a month so they would be sitting on the shelf for about 7 months. Good idea? Bad idea? Help!
