Using Advantage for the first time

And I have a super stupid question. I put a tube of advantage on my 18 lb black cat at about 8 pm pacific time, and I need to know how long do I have to wait to pet my cat? He is super cuddle kitty and I am shunning him right now because of all the warnings on the Advantage package about how its way bad for humans.
