The Philippines adult men and women compound archers continues to outclass competitors in their divisions proving that height is not might and despite of the lack of support from government; our archers have the dedication to become world class archers. The Asian Archery Championships is held every other year and is affiliated to the Asian Games Organization. This prestigious tournament is participated by Archers from as far west as Iran and as far north as China, Korea and Japan. On the other hand, the Asian Grand Prix is affiliated to the Asian Archery Federation and covers the same area but because it is held three times a year and every year, it is rarely participated by archery power-house countries like Korea and Japan. The SEA Games (South East Asian Games) is held every other year and is affiliated to the South East Asian Federation. It is only participated by South East Asian countries only but is by far the most popular tournament that demands the highest budgets from all participating government. In 2007, Earl Yap, our top male compound archer who is also ranked top ten in world ranking won Gold in the 1st Leg of Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok, Thailand; Gold again in Asian Archery Championship in Xian, China and Silver in SEA Games at Korat, Thailand. While Amaya Paz, our top female compound archer who is also ranked top ten in world ranking won Gold in the 1st and 2nd Leg of Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok, Thailand and Taipei respectively and also won Gold in SEA Games at Korat, Thailand. 2007 also see the re-emerging of Jennifer Chan, a former Filipina Olympian Recurve Archer in compound archery. She finished second in the 2005 SEA Games at Subic. In 2006, she finished 4th in the last Leg of World Cup Competition in Shanghai, China and in 2007, she finished second for Silver in the 2007 Asian Archery Championships at Xian, China. Earl Yap, after his semifinals match against Irans #1 and his finals match against Koreas #1 said that this 2007 Asian Archery Championships Gold medal is the sweetest of all the Gold medals that he had won in Greater Asia. While Amaya Paz was in tears when she finally won the SEA Games for the second time after struggling between academic and training schedules in preparation for the SEA Games. Amaya said they were tears of happiness because she was overwhelmed with joy. In 2007, Mark Javier, our top Mens Recurve Archer from Dumaguete also qualified for a slot at the 2008 Olympic in Beijing. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR GREAT ARCHERS !!.
